About FAIRES

What is FAIRES?

FAIRES is the Foundation for Artificial Intelligence Research, Education and Science, Inc., a U.S. nonprofit scientific and educational research organization founded and governed by academic researchers. Our mission is to conduct, support, and advance research in artificial intelligence, computing, and related interdisciplinary fields.

What research areas does FAIRES focus on?

Our scope includes AI safety, trustworthy AI, cybersecurity and privacy, multi-agent systems, software engineering, computer science, applied computing, and research and computing education. We welcome interdisciplinary work that connects these areas to important scientific questions.

Does FAIRES conduct its own research?

Yes. FAIRES develops its own research directions, forms teams, pursues grants, and seeks university and researcher collaborations. We are developing our program portfolio. The research themes on this site describe our scientific direction, not a list of funded awards.

What kinds of research outputs does FAIRES aim to produce?

We aim to produce peer-reviewed publications, reusable software, documented datasets, evaluation methods, and educational resources. Sharing depends on project agreements, research ethics, intellectual property, privacy, and security considerations. The selected scholarship on this site describes individual founders’ work and does not imply FAIRES funding or ownership.

Collaboration and participation

Who can work with FAIRES?

We welcome inquiries from researchers, independent teams, universities, other research institutions, funders, and collaborators whose work aligns with our scientific and educational mission. A conversation can begin with a research idea, a potential partnership, a funding opportunity, or a project that needs an organizational home.

Can independent researchers or teams without a university affiliation inquire?

Yes. An independent researcher or team may inquire about collaboration or an organizational home. We consider the research objectives, team expertise, eligibility, funding requirements, operational needs, and available capacity for each proposed arrangement.

Can universities and university-affiliated researchers collaborate with FAIRES?

Potentially. We welcome discussions about joint research, grant proposals, scientific exchanges, and project support. Any arrangement must be compatible with the university’s policies, sponsor requirements, and the researchers’ existing obligations. Relevant institutional representatives should be involved early.

An organizational home for research

What project support may be available?

Depending on the project and fit, FAIRES may support grant administration, contracting, financial administration, project management, research infrastructure, and fiscal or administrative sponsorship or similar arrangements. The scope of support depends on review, eligibility, capacity, and a written agreement.

Is fiscal or administrative sponsorship automatically available?

No. FAIRES considers whether an arrangement is appropriate and feasible for the specific project. We review mission alignment, funder and institutional requirements, practical responsibilities, and available capacity before making a commitment. An inquiry does not establish sponsorship, funding, employment, or an affiliation.

Does a project need funding before contacting FAIRES?

No. You may contact us while developing an idea, preparing a proposal, awaiting a funding decision, or planning a funded project. Explain what funding is secured or being pursued, any deadlines, and the support you need. FAIRES does not promise funding as part of an inquiry.

What are the costs and terms of project support?

Costs and responsibilities are considered for each project. If there is a fit, discussions may cover the support scope, budget, administrative costs, reporting, oversight, intellectual property, data access, and the duration of the relationship. Agreed terms must be documented before work begins.

How do I start a conversation?

Use the inquiry form and choose the topic closest to your request. Include a short, non-confidential introduction, the research question, your team or institution, expected outputs, and any funding or timing considerations. A full proposal is not required for an initial conversation.
